The Mass spectrometry platform has a strong focus on fundamental research in physical chemistry, biophysics and structural chemistry. The concepts developed are transposed in methods applied in various fields of analytical and structural chemistry: food safety, environmental sciences, “omics”, follow up of industrial processes, clinical applications.

ajor research lines include the development of fundamental aspects of trapped ion mobility, ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry, advanced separation methods for biomolecules, mass spectrometry of non-covalent assemblies. Hyphenated methods of separation are available coupled with mass spectrometry, with emphasis on capillary electrophoresis and ion mobility in the gas phase to elucidate the effect of the ion formation mechanisms on the shape of the ions in the gas phase

Inorganic Analytical Chemistry

The vibrational spectroscopy platform (Raman and IR) aims at developing analytical strategies in novel and integrated topics within MolSys research interests in the field of environmental sciences, food safety, medical and industrial applications. Integrated approaches include, for instance, miniaturized microfluidic systems for sample treatment, nanoparticles synthesis and on line-SERS probe measurement system; development of multimodal imaging by Raman Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry for clinical applications; synthesis of customized (bio)chemical nanoprobes for multimodal analyses by multiplex SERS and Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry. Raman is also used for space exploration (Detection of organic compounds (potential biomarkers) in mineral solid powders and imaging bioinorganic materials.
Organic and Biological Analytical Chemistry Group

The OBiAChem Group (Organic and Biological Analytical Chemistry Group) is conducting method development for small molecules characterization. This goes from instrumental development to “turn key” analytical solution. The group is specialized in the development of comprehensive multidimensional chromatographic methods hyphenated with mass spectrometry. Nevertheless, we are currently developing multi-omics methods for the full characterization of biological samples. One aspect of our work is the fundamental research, conducted for novel technologies development in sampling and characterization, e.g. new trapping material based on ionic liquid or implementation of tandem ionization techniques. We also develop analytical strategies for medical, forensic, food, and various industrial applications.
